Italian Tofu-balls

Have this dish with pasta, rice, potatoes, anything your heart desires! The balls hold together well and the sauce compliments them perfectly.

  • Fry pan
  • Chopping board and sharp knife
  • Baking tray



  • 750 g tofu mashed
  • 2/3 cup plain flour
  • 2 Tbsp Italian herb mix dried or fresh
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp sweet paprika
  • 3 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper to taste

Tomato Sauce

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 brown onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic diced
  • 700 g tomato passata
  • 1 Tbsp Italian herbs dried or fresh
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1 handful basil and oregano optional* fresh


  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius.
  • Add all of the ingredients for the tofu balls into a bowl and mix until well combined.
  • Roll the mixture into balls and place on a lined baking tray leaving a small space between each ball.
  • Bake the balls in the oven for approximately 30 minutes or until firm and starting to turn brown.
  • Meanwhile, fry the oil, onion and garlic in a frypan until the onion starts to soften.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the fry pan to heat up the sauce. Leave to simmer, adding water to make your preferred sauce texture (optional).
  • Place the cooked balls into the sauce and mix so that they are all coated with sauce.
  • Serve with pasta, rice, salad or potatoes.
